Volunteer

So you're interested in volunteering to support independent film in Whatcom County? Great! We always need more people! The most popular volunteer opportunity is helping run the Pickford Cinema, but we also have many other opportunities to help out (see below).

Staffing Pickford Cinema

The Pickford is currently experiencing a significant flow of business and we rely on the help of volunteers to make the theater run as smoothly as it possibly can. Volunteering is fun, easy, and a great way to meet new people and get involved in our community.

Signing up: First you will need your Food Handler's Permit. If you don't already have one you can take the test at the Whatcom County Health Department (509 Girard St.) for a $10 fee. We will reimburse you with two free passes once you have completed the test. We also have copies of the Food Handlers Workbook on hand if you want to study first, or you can download a copy from the Whatcom County Health Department.

Once that is complete, stop by the Pickford during normal operating hours and sign up to work using the volunteer sign-up sheet in the concessions area. All shifts last about an hour and earn one free pass, per person, per shift. We usually only need one volunteer per shift, but we do give the  option of signing up with a friend if you prefer. The main responsibility of volunteers is to clean the theater after each show, fill water, make popcorn and help sell concessions and tickets. We also offer an extra free pass for anyone signing up to work the late show. The added responsibility is to help clean the concessions stand and clean out the popcorn popper after the show has started. We are always looking for people to help, particularly on Friday and Saturday evenings.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to stop by the Pickford and any of our staff can help answer them for you.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

We also need volunteers to help with our other programs. To get involved, contact the appropriate person directly:
